There was held a seminar on the theme “Organization of Monitoring Ukrainian Commercial Banks in 1997”. At the seminar there was under consideration an order of enforcement of Instruction ¹10 of the NBU to have been certified by the Resolution ¹343 of the Board of Directors of the NBU of December 31, 1996.

There took place a meeting of senior executives of commercial banks with Mr. Olexandr Moroz, Head of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine under consideration during which there was legal settlement of matters connected with bank activities as well as the necessity of taking into account bank activities’ peculiarities in the package of draft laws in taxation reforms.

A workshop was formed for the purpose of generalization of observations regarding commercial banks’ activities to the draft law of Ukraine “On Introducing Amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On Taxation of Enterprises’ Profits”. This workshop was made up of specialists of Accounting Department of the NBU, AUB and commercial banks’ representatives. The major part of the workshop’s proposals was noted by the Commission on Finance and Banking of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine while completing the draft Law.

There was conducted a seminar on the theme “Enforcement and Practical Application of the Law of Ukraine “On Introducing Amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On Taxation of Enterprises’ Profits” involving the participation of law drafters, members of the Commission on Finance and Banking of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

There took place consultative meetings on the issues of accountancy and accounting in commercial banks. Under consideration was the issue as to realization of the programme on transition to International Accounting Standards. Chief accountants of Ukrainian commercial banks participated in this seminar as well.

There was conducted a meeting between the administration of the Association of Ukrainian Banks, directors of a number of commercial banks and Mr. Leonid Kuchma, President of Ukraine. The participants of the meeting deliberated on the ways of developing the banking system of Ukraine, ways to tackle payment crisis, settle the budget indebtedness, to improve efficiency of the Banks Supervision Department. Mr. Victor Yushchenko, Board Chairman of the NBU, also participated in the meeting.

Consultative meetings were held on the draft Provision “About Order of Formation and Using Reserves to Recover Possible Losses against Commercial Bank Loans”.

October

A joint meeting between the Board of  the NBU, executives of regional departements of the NBU and chairmen of board of Ukrainian commercial banks took place, deliberating on the questions connected with execution of orders of the President of Ukraine in pursuance of the results of the meeting with the President of Ukraine discussing banking which took place on June 22, 1997

A meeting of Credit Departments of commercial banks professionals on Evaluation of Credit Risks and Formation of Insurance Reserves took place.
