International conference “Problem of Stabilization of the National Currency in Newly Created European Countries: Practical Aspects” with the participation of representatives of the executive authority as well as with those of financial-budgetary institutions and commercial banks of Ukraine, Byelorussia, Kazakhstan, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and other post-Soviet states.

Meeting of the Administration of AUB with Mr. Leonid Kravchuk, President of Ukraine.

October

The second convention of the Association. There was passed a decision as to renaming the Association of Commercial and Corporate Banks into the Association of Ukrainian Banks. The new name accorded with the goals and tasks of the Association to a greater extent.

November

At the meeting of the Council on Banking at the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine there were discussed the problems of devaluation of the national currency and introduction of its fixed rate. The Association was consistently advocating the market rate of the national currency.

December

At the enlarged meeting of the Association Council with the participation of Mr. V. A. Yushchenko, Board Chairman of the NBU, there were considered mechanisms of utilization of required reserves, bank liquidity, purchase of exchange; expansion to foreign affiliates the function of banking monitoring etc.
