Aims and mission
 

The Association of Ukrainian Banks (AUB), founded on a goodwill basis, is an association of professional commercial banks and other financial and credit institutions in Ukraine. It was established in December 1989 at the meeting of representatives of 11 commercial banks as the Association of Commercial and Corporate Banks.

Principal goals of AUB:

  • Representing and protecting interests of the banks-members of the Association, ensuring both a legal base and legal safeguards for bank activities;
  • Facilitating qualification and proficiency growth of top-executives and bank specialists;
  • Acquainting the public with bank activities and their role in economic life of Ukraine;
  • Promoting implementation of provisions of the antimonopoly legislation in banking;
  • Establishing mutual credence, reliability, decency and business cooperation in the relations between banks and their clients, notifying banks of legislative and statutory acts on the questions of banking issued by state authorities, administrations and management bodies, of those of the NBU and the Superior Arbitrage Court of Ukraine;
  • Developing international bank relations

With the aim of implementing the afore-mentioned goals AUB uses its best endeavours for its proposals to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Government to be approved while considering legislative and statutory acts’ drafts on banking issues.

The Association of Ukrainian Banks:

  • facilitates and encourages business contacts with the Verhovna Rada , the Administration of President of Ukraine and with the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine;
  • cooperates with the NBU as to elaboration of chief guidelines of monetary policy, improving control over bank activities, taxation policy etc.;
  • establishes schools, centers and courses on professional retraining of bank staff in association with appropriate educational institutions;
  • cooperates with mass media, holds press conferences, has information booklets and other printing materials published;
  • provides consulting and assistance to its members on the questions connected with activities of the Ukrainian banks, both individually and in association with the NBU holds symposia, seminars, workshops;
  • studies and enlarges its experience, provides recommendations as to efficient implementation of bank transactions and standardization of bank procedures as well as renders assistance to banks in organizing their activities, in overcoming the circumstances which provisionally impair banks’ liquidity situation;
  • coordinates banks’ activities as regards common interests of AUB members

AUB actively participated in preparation and approval of the instructions of the National Bank of Ukraine “On Regulating and Controlling Commercial Banks’ Activities”, “On Procedures of Licensing Commercial Banks’ Activities”, provisions “On Creating Reserves to Cover Losses from Credit Operations”, “On Formation of Required Reserves by Banking System” etc. Considerable amount of work was done in connection with transferring the Ukrainian banking system on international accounting standards what enabled the national banking system to advance substantially towards integration in international banking, expanding direct contacts of Ukrainian banks with those worldwide. One of AUB achievements is establishing business cooperation with the National Bank of Ukraine. Notwithstanding some discrepancies in opinions as to commercial banks’ activities, functioning of minor banks and their capitalization, as to some items in monetary policy and formation of required reserves, on the whole, AUB enjoys a common approach the National Bank of Ukraine as to activities of the banking system.
